Well, whatever plan we come up with, I just got No Man's Sky after a slight delay, and I've already got a completely unoriginal idea for something I want to do. If nothing else, the downtime/decision making process will give me a chance to build a backlog. Honestly, I could just make a blog or something for this and my "Re-watch all of Gundam EVER" deal I'm also currently doing, but I know most of you guys, even if only indirectly, and I want to show it to all ya'll first before giving it out to the internet where it'll wither and die.

^ I've been thinking of an anime-related podcast myself. I've seen a lot of people fall into the trap of running one episode per anime series, even if there's a lot to talk about or almost nothing to talk about. So I've been thinking of running one which uses small clumps of episodes (2-6 episodes) instead. The idea would be you listen to the podcast at the same time you binge-watch the series--watch four episodes, listen to a podcast about them. Watch the next three, listen to the next podcast.
So after a bit more research on the Raspberry Pi....
It is very easy to turn a Linux machine of any sort into a server, so the problem would be getting the content onto it.
Well, one of the problems. I did some figuring. I was figuring that on average the legacy archive wouldn't need to be powerful because it would be mostly unused and it's mostly text, anyway, with a few avatars splashed in. There's almost no need for power there.
That's not how you design things, though; you design them for a worst-case scenario. Say two or three members are searching the archives at the same time--which is actually quite likely to happen from time to time, like if someone mentions an archive thread in the active community area. There's no way a tiny, uncooled, room temperature processor can keep up with that in good time. Alternatively, we could use a beefier machine--pretty much any retired laptop or PC tower laying around could do--but then the electric bill and space requirements for the person hosting it will add up. The rasp pi would be truly trivial.

It is possible we won't even need a legacy server; probably shouldn't spend too much time on research and planning until the admins can access LA's ACP to evaluate a step one, much less the final steps.
Of course, it is anyone's guess when we'll be able to access LA.

I know this is kind of the most meaningless number ever, but how are you guys getting your original join dates? I think mine was 2001-ish, but the archive hasn't been of much help.

It's mostly from memory. Some of us are fudging the exact day. But I know from the Wayback Machine + memory that I was early February of 2003.

I was pretty sure my day was June 10th, and 100% sure it was a Tuesday. How did I know? Because it was the second day of 8th Grade Finals, which started on Monday. So I checked the calendar and yep, June 10 was a Tuesday that year.
Yes, my long-term memory is bizarrely acute. Short term is another story.

Mine is September 30th 2008, I was in Grade 8 at the time. I remember very vividly at the time we were supposed to be working on a geography assignment and instead I was browsing for Zelda forums to get into. I registered and posted a few times on ZU but it was too crowded for me, and when I found LA it just seemed to have a more laid-back feel to it.
