So my LP partner gave me his old PS4 after he upgraded, and I was wondering what games I should pick up for it? I have Knack and some bs free to play games.
It should be noted that I don't have PS+, since I already have Xbox Gold.
I was thinking about the Crash Bandicoot trilogy and games like Blooborne and Nioh. Any other suggestions?

A sampling of some big PS4 games:
* The Last of Us * Uncharted franchise * This War of Mine * Journey * Injustice (if you're down for fighting games) * The Last Guardian * Horizon: Zero Dawn * Infamous: Second Son
All single player. Although I will say I like having a PS+ account too -- their complimentary games are usually a lot better than the ones XBox offers.

Dark Souls. Accept no substitutes. III was better than Bloodborne was way better than Nioh. II is also available on PS4.
Uncharted trilogy remastered if you didn't have a PS3 and Uncharted 4 if you already played those.
Tales of Something. These are guilty pleasure RPGs for me. Anime RPGs with Smash style combat. I played Zesteria and Berseria is in line. Berseria is supposed to be better.
Horizon Zero Dawn is hypy, but I can't endorse it yet because I just started.
Ratchet and Clank is by all accounts a great reboot. I never played any other game in the series, but I really enjoyed this one.
I can also correlate my standard indie recommendations against PS4 if you want.

For the life of me, I just cannot get into Uncharted or Last of Us. I just really don't like the combat for whatever reason, which is a shame, since they have kickass characters and stories.
I still need to play Journey, so I'll add that one. I have Dark Souls on last gen hardware, but I'm waiting to see if we end up getting 3 or a trilogy on Switch, based on some rumors.
There are some PSP/Vita ports I've been eyeing, like Tearaway, Gravity Rush, Papaton, and Loco Roco.
I have a lot of indies on Steam and Nintendo platforms, but name away, there's always some gems I may be missing.

So let's talk about Bloodborne and Nioh.
Bloodborne is Souls in a more Lovecraftian setting and forces you to play as a speedy, reckless, shieldless character. You get a lot less freedom than you do in a Souls game, but it appealed a LOT to people who found Dark Souls to be either too overwhelming with decisions and scope, or who wanted faster-paced, more forgiving combat.
Nioh, I couldn't finish. I just wasn't enjoying it. It's Souls/Bloodborne-inspired, and you play as the Great White Hero in dark fantasy feudal Japan. It has a "choose a level from a map screen" approach rather than the huge interconnected world approach of a Souls game. The story is just as confusing, except it's told in cutscenes, the locales and enemies get real repetitive real fast. Character builds take a skill tree approach and the loot system is Diablo styled. So you spend a lot more time in menus than you would in a Souls game. It's really fiddly and cumbersome and I dropped the game.
You mileage may vary with either of those, of course.
The big indie games I like to recommend are:
- Rogue Legacy - Axiom Verge - Hollow Knight - Shovel Knight - Binding of Isaac - 20XX

On indy games: I've heard good things about Furi.
I'm not actually sure how many of the games on my shelf I can recommend. Shadow of Mordor is solid, as is Mad Max, but I haven't actually spent that much time with either of them.
I've actually been playing a LOT of Final Fantasy XV for a very weird reason; I'm busy and a game which lets you mash a button to drive to across the map and spend three minutes folding IRL clothes is actually really handy. On the whole I'd say it's an 8/10 because the story leaves a lot of things unsaid and the combat is both fast and slushy. Not bracingly so, but what can I say? I've been spoiled by Dark Souls and I expect action RPGs to have tight controls.
