I downloaded Mighty Gunvolt Burst and I am loving it so far. They took Beck from Mighty No. 9 and Gunvolt Guy from Gunvolt and put them in a new Mega Man like game. I'm playing as Beck first and I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes.
The main difference between this game and Mega Man is that instead of gaining new weapons by beating bosses, you collect customization parts through exploration...and beating bosses. I've seen different trajectories, mobility upgrades, piercing options, elemental effects...you're basically designing your own Mega Man weapons out of the toolkits granted to you buy the game. Each part has a point value, and you can only equip up to the number of your max custom points, but your cap expands as you beat levels and find upgrades.
The customization is incredibly deep.
You want a sword that does water damage and travels in a sine wave? Sure thing, what frequency and amplitude do you want that in? You want a boomerang drill? How far do you want it to go before it turns around and do you want it to piece enemies and/or walls? Just a basic shot? Fuck you. Tell me how many fit on a screen at once and how quickly they fade away.
My first custom job was a gyro shot that curves sharply upwards. It was great for hitting a boss that kept to the sky. I have a homing missile set that I just upgraded for a stronger homing effect. My main right now is a drill shot that ricochets off walls and ground.
Other than the customization, it plays like a good Mega Man game. Totally worth the $10.
