So, For Honor wasn't on my radar, but they're having an open beta this week. It is surprisingly good. I'm really tempted to get it.
Disclaimer: It is multiplayer, though you can play against bots. It focuses on duels, small brawls, and large battles that involve point control. No story or campaign mode. That will automatically turn a lot of you off, so I figured I'd just get it out of the way now.

It can be summarized as "Melee Simulator 2017."
It's not a standard hack-and-slash game. You don't button mash. The controls are pretty complex for the genre. You have to determine the direction of both your attacks, parries, and dodges. While complex, the controls are still smooth and well mapped -- it just takes getting used to. There's a pretty steep learning curve, but after you get over it the game becomes pretty addictive.
It also kinda reminds me of the Dorm Wars we used to have.
You choose a faction when you start -- Vikings, Samurai, or Knights. The factions compete for territory and reputation on a continental battle map. Gains/losses are determined every 6-ish hours or so. Your victories contribute to your faction's performance. Winnings lots of battles and duels will support your faction in the war. Faction performance in a round is determined by how well all their individual players do. Territory adjusts accordingly.
4 classes per "faction," but you can actually play any of the 12 classes. So, you can be a samurai character fighting for the Vikings. They all have different strengths / weaknesses / play styles. Some are fast but squishy, others are slow but incredibly powerful, and then you've got the in-betweens.
I might actually end up getting it. Pleasantly surprised. Anyone else trying the beta?
