NVIDIA just announced a new gaming service -- Geforce Now.
If your computer isn't good enough to game, but you don't want to spend $1000+ on a new PC, you now have this option. Essentially, it's cloud gaming.
They've built dedicated gaming supercomputers to handle the "back end" of gaming. Their hardware will actually run the game, but it will broadcast the footage directly to your PC at home. It's like plugging your PC monitor into an ultra-powerful computer a million miles away. It basically turns any computer -- even a Mac -- into a dedicated gaming PC.
The Geforce Now login just creates a mock Windows desktop with big
services already installed: Steam, Battle.Net, League of Legends, Origin, etc. You can go in there and use your existing logins if you have them. You can access your existing Steam library. If you purchase a game on Steam while in a Geforce session, it just gets added to your library. No "exclusively on Geforce Now" bullshit.
You don't have to sit through updates. When you purchase a game on Steam, you don't have to wait for 50 gigs to download. NVIDIA's gaming supercomputers will remain fully updated and have all the games pre-downloaded. Buy a game on Steam, and you can instantly launch it when you use this service.
Starting rates: $25 for 20 hours of high-res, modern gaming
If you want 4k resolution, you'll have to pay a little extra. But this is really, really cool. Especially if you only game on occasion. As most working adults do.
