So, Yule Goat, that's a thing right? Just the idea that there's going to be this gigantic, flammable straw goat in Gävle, Sweden, gives me a warm feeling inside. When you search for Gävlebocken on DuckDuckGo, you get this image: When you Google it, you get this one:
It's not supposed to burn. But the world is full of arsonists that just want to see the goat burn. It burnt down 28 times in the past 49 years.
Will it survive this year on its 50th Anniversary? Let's hope so. A shame it would be in bad taste to bet which day it gets burnt down. Because that's thing I've seen happen. People taking bets.

Ahhh, the goat. It's always amusing to see its fiery demise, although I guess it's also a disappointment to the people who invest so much time making it. Scandinavians do love their giant bonfires. I'm sure there are a lot of Swedish-Americans over here that would do the exact same thing if given the opportunity. .....I'd be tempted.
Maybe they should have 'round the clock Goat-Guards this year.

Scandinavians do love their giant bonfires. Just ask the Norwegians.

Sounds like the goat was destroyed within mere hours.
I am not surprised in the least. It's a big anniversary, after all. I bet tons of people were standing at the ready.

Would have been nice to see it last a bit longer, though. I really love its twitter account, though. It just adds to the cuteness.
