'Cause hosting isn't really an issue, but IPB's software costs money -- either $30/month or $170+ flat fee if you host yourself. So.... yeah. I don't want him to unless he feels it's really no problem. I'd be more than willing to PayPal some money in for that if Davo wants it.

I would also be willing to contribute money to keeping the LA archive online. Not just chipping in, but a significant amount. For Zelda Legends, too (admittedly, I care more about that than LA) I don't want anything to be lost.
As for whether we move, or not, it doesn't really matter to me, as long as nothing gets left behind to disappear.

For my two cents... I'm fine either way, if we want to keep Old LA or get rid of it entirely. But if we keep it, I absolutely support password protecting it or setting it all to members-only viewing. There's a lot of stuff there that is fairly embarrassing to look back on as well as several threads of email and IM contact info that would probably be better kept somewhat private.
Since the server instability was one of my main concerns before, I'm really tempted to support the idea of sticking with Old LA and making a fresh start by archiving/password protecting everything that's there now. There are pluses to it, like having more smileys (ProBoards won't let us have more than 100, which means I can't even get all of our smileys from Old LA added) and an ACP that actually makes some sense. But at the same time, I would feel kinda bad about Davo paying whatever increased hosting fees there would be (I am not in any kind of position to really contribute T_T ). And we've already gotten off to a promising start here at our new house, plus we have more options for cool skins. So part of me wants to stay here and just maintain Old LA as an archive. I'm no help!

Okay, good news!
Davogones is very willing to host an archived LA.
The Zelda sections will be left open -- just in case he decides to renovate Zelda Legends before the launch of BotW. Old LA will become "Zelda Legends Forums," and it'll be sleek and tidy and focused on just that series.
The rest of Old LA will be archived at the bottom of the index. I will put a password on it so that only we can access it. You can browse through all the old threads for however long davo is willing to host the forums. He says he doesn't want to get rid of ZL any time soon because it was his baby, so the archive might stick around for a while.
When using the archive, please allow ads so that davo can get a steady revenue stream to help pay for hosting fees.
He doesn't want to pay for the LA domain name anymore, though, so maybe it's good we're switching over here regardless.
Also, davogones said he was interested in bringing Zelda Legends back to life -- the only reason it died is from lack of steady contributors. So if anyone is interested in maintaining/updating ZL (preferably with some web experience), he would probably love the help. He's a busy grown-up now, so it's not something he can do full time anymore.

Yeah, the IPB software price is a big reason for us to stick with the move. I mean, if the popular mood were for keeping old LA active we could probably pool our money together for the flat fee (I'd be happy to chip in a bit myself, and lord knows that it's not easy for me to loosen the purse strings) but at this point I don't think it's worth it. I'm all for keeping old LA as an archive, though - it'd be nice to keep around for nostalgia reasons, at least for me.
Edit: Missed the second page, looks like things are going the way I suggested anyway XD

If we can keep old LA in some form or another then YES, totally do that. It seems the group decision leans towards option 2, though I suppose I'd love to keep the old forums the same as they always have been. Still, I can see this for the best.

I will host it myself if David ever tires of it. And I currently have backups of it, so even if somehow everything that davogones controls was lost, it's recoverable. Possibly in a static form, that loses the PHP content management system that allows things like comments etc, but retains all of the content. In that scenario I'd likely do a redesign that makes it clear that it's more of an archive than an active site. For the original topic: I actually prefer keeping the original LA boards. I don't think my vote should count for much, because I barely ever posted and I never had to deal with the instability issues (I haven't ben an LA admin in like 8 years, hah). But I really did like having my old home-on-the-net around to visit every once in awhile. History and all. But I'll defer to the active members' choice for sure.

Today's update:
Original LA will be staying online for you to browse whenever you want. Since it'll just be an archive, any server instability wont be an issue at all. This site will be our new active home.
I'm in the process of archiving Original LA's old/unused sections. I'll wait to archive the active sections (and the LA Chronicles) until we're closer to shutting down operations. Still looking at a set date for that -- November 5th, perhaps, if only for the sake of it coinciding with the little "5th of November" rhyme.
The old forum's url will eventually change to: forums.zeldalegends.net. Remaining open sections will be exclusively devoted to Zelda and Zelda Legends. Our archive will be down near the bottom; invisible to guests and only accessible with a password. For now, the password is: RememberOurHome.
We'll acquire ownership of forums.legendsalliance.com -- and it will redirect to this site.

As someone who joined when it was called the Zelda Legends forum, complete with that URL, I can't help but be a bit amused.
It's nice that we won't lose everything, though we'll still have our new path and site forward as well.

That's a massive relief to me. I'm also glad we're keeping legendsalliance.com so that returning members can find us. Let me know if any help is needed to pay for the domain.

Good to see this is working out. I was concerned to see a community this old go away, even if I've been a non-participant.
It's easy enough to keep archives up these days. If for some reason the plan falls through, I might be able to arrange something else.
PS - Hi l-o-s!
