Doing another Grand Tournament/LA game at some point is definitely feasible. Forum creation and user groups work pretty much the same way Old LA did.

I would really love another tourney. It probably won't pull new members, but it will be fun. Any chance we can make some changes to the formula to make it easier to make or run? I don't have a clue how hard they were to put together behind the scenes.

I don't have a clue how hard they were to put together behind the scenes. The formula depends on the type of tournament being held. A War of the Roses model is very involved, requiring people to collaborate in a giant chess match. This model failed because of the lack of participation, people had lives to live and lost interest. The Standard JRP model is basically a matter of getting 32 names, randomizing who fights who, creating assets such as a sprite map, match bracket and match graphics and placing them all into a series of polls. Create a schedule for people to vote in and WHAM that's the tournament. I'm working on a hybrid model that I'm dubbing a "Holy Grail War" model, using the team model more loosely but increasing the number of nominations as well as include a class system as well. The idea is roughly based from Fate Stay/Night but I'd like to think I could do something neat with the concept.

I'm kinda imagining LA members as masters with fandom characters as servants.

The Fate/ Stay Night idea is actually kinda brilliant. Not sure how I'd implement it, however.
If we had dorms I'd recommend skinning some Hearthstone cards with fandom characters and making a tourney into a community draft/ deckbuilding game, where a small group of people control one summoner who in turn controls a deck of fandom characters. Still, the objective was to make things easier. Easier that doesn't sound.

Yeah, it seems like the issue we had with War of the Roses was that there were so few people who were both around regularly AND who were good at figuring out a strategy. I'm not sure what you've got in mind (not familiar with Fate/Stay Night), but with LA at our current size, I think simpler is likely to get better participation. When you get ready to start setting up the next one, maybe you could do a poll and try to get an idea of how much LA time people expect to have that month and then tailor the game to that, so you don't put in a ton of work and then get a disappointing response. (I'm having painful flashbacks to a couple of dorm events over the years... XD)

I think my biggest fault with these games is that I presume they are simple to execute for all perspectives and not just my own. I think you have a good point wisp, it would be better to gauge how active users are on LA and perhaps create a better means of communication. If I do a new tournament in the near future, it'll probably be a simple JRP affair rather than anything too expansive.
I would very much like to bring other heads into the planning process in the future, not only to bring new ideas in but to see how ideas could best be implemented in games to come. It might be something we can achieve better with a more active user base or a larger user base but I don't want to mess around the next time I do a tournament of any kind. I suppose the tournament is a good thing to keep active users together, rather than attracting new users.

We must never underestimate the crushing, oppressive force of adulthood.

So LA's proper revitalization will wait until we all are ancient, double-denture-weilding, old folks in a nursing home?
