I'm going to go ahead and third Ty's idea. Even if we can't read it for the time being, being able to hang onto the files for a potential and unknown future date seems much better than keeping nothing at all. This means I need to put my foot on the gas for saving all the old Chronicles threads, plus whatever else I feel like. And to answer your question Leo, I have the first third of the Chronicles threads saved as Word docs. I'm going to go ahead and try and knock out a few more tonight. I don't know how helpful this will be but I found an old folder of a bunch of Chronicles threads I saved as .html pages for some reason back in 2011...? Some of them aren't even ones I was part of LA for, I guess 16-year-old me was just really into the Chronicles. I can't upload it in this thread but so far I have Call of the Cursed Cleansing Grey Interlude Steel and Steam The Canyon's Vigilance The Eagle's Talons The Future of the Empire The Witch of Voodoo Isle To End an Empire Unholy Union Van'duras (???) The Day the Wind Died (up to page 8) I'll see if I can transcribe some of them over to .doc's as well on the weekend as well.

Speaking of searching usernames...... I searched my old username, and most of it was old stuff related to me or to clarinets (and some other clarinetist who seems to post almost entirely in Survivor and Big Brother subreddits... I should've signed up long ago and reserved that username T_T ), but one of the things I found was actually interesting! An old (old, old, very OLD) Dorm Quiz! Pre-Death Mountain era. You can find out which of the old dorms you would've belonged to, theoretically. XD

(I'm still 100% Loddie.) XD When I was new and applying for dormship, someone actually had the nerve to predict I'd be in the Chamberpot of Sages!

So that means Zelda Legends is going down too? And also North Castle?

It would be a shame to lose all the valuable resources archived on ZL,so I'll immediately get started on downloading and saving as much as I can. And North Castle is a piece of history, I'm sad to see it go offline but I suppose all good things must come to an end.

It's sad we'll be losing so much content, but perhaps it's for the best. The more I think about it, the less I care about most of it.
I don't know what tools are available for mods or admins to save, but we could probably manually print each thread off to a PDF printer program like PrimoPDF. If there's a better way to do this, I'd love to hear it. All I really want preserved is LA Chron and the Dorm Wars archives. I might cherry-pick some of the Showcase and perhaps go through Koridai and Lost Woods, but I don't even think I'll bother with that. I haven't touched that content in ages and probably will never need to again.

I'm pretty much just taking screencaps of any portions of threads that seem memorable. It might be cool if we could save some of the better threads as PDFs or something, but that seems like a real headache to try to do all of it.

Is anyone able to contact Khuffie to see if there's a way to transfer all the files hosted on ZL? All the images, manual and guide scans, official art, music, comics, manga, text dumps... There's a lot of resources that are really important to Zelda fans. I'm trying to download what I can manually but my slow internet connection is making it difficult.

You can contact him at khuffie@gmail.com -- he may have some other people backing those things up. If not, maybe you two can coordinate something. I know the old webmasters have been contacted about this, so they might have plans.

Thanks to this thread I've thought to Google Synile, and there's an interloper on twitch stealing my name.

So I appear to (finally) have a day off. I'm going to be experimenting with archiving LA Jukebox with HTTracker. If that works, then I'll try to archive the whole forum.
EDIT: So, good news and bad news. It appears that HTTracker can make a backup website. It's not anywhere near as pretty as the real website, and I don't think search will work, but it does, in fact, make an archive site. From there, making a torrent of the archive isn't a big deal.
The problem? It either tries to copy just the page I give it the URL to or every page on the internet, starting with that page. You could call this bug a deal-breaker, as I'm not trying to backup the internet. There has to be a setting somewhere to restrict it to just addresses starting with forums.legendsalliance, but I don't know where that is. An archive looks doable, but I'm not entirely sure how, yet.
