E3 2017

So this year was quite the low bar with a series of underperfomances. Nintendo won almost by default of their market position; Sony is comfortable with the PS4. Microsoft is a little jealous with the Scorpio, but not enough to really make a difference, and Nintendo just launched a console and needs to float it into midlife. Nintendo did the best because they're the only ones not spinning their wheels.

The Shadow of the Colossus remake is probably an indirect admission that Sony intends to stick to their guns on no more backwards compatibility. Although I think the most insane announcement came from Microsoft. Minecraft in 4K!!!

*facepalm*

Metroid Prime 4 is a big announcement, and I'm hoping they're further along on it and Xenoblade 2 than they let on, but on the whole this is a ho-hum E3.

For me, the best part of E3 was the Samus Returns announcement. I mean, sure confirming that Metroid Prime 4 is happening someday is nice, but a surprise 2D Metroid game coming to 3DS this year? That's just awesome. And it's a reimagining of Metroid II, the Metroid game with the most untapped potential? Hell yeah. Let's do this.

Ironically enough, AM2R only got me more excited about Metroid II because I finally saw what a good game that one can be.
