Yeah, the voice acting isn't quite the caliber I'd expect for a game that was almost guaranteed to sell well. I mean, this is Nintendo - if they wanted to get Patrick Stewart to play the King of Hyrule I think they could have managed.

I don't mind the voices too much, though some are worse than others, it's definitely the actual acting that leaves a lot to be desired. They're mostly new-ish actors so I can't say for sure if they're just bad or if they had a not-great director. Did this game maybe run into the strike, or did all this get recorded before that started?
As for the music, it took me by surprise how little of it there was when I started, since I'm so used to Zelda games having music just out the wazoo all over the place for everything. Listening to the sampler CD that came with the CE and in the game itself, I really do appreciate and like it more, the piano based stuff just works really well like Jasi said for making it feel lonely and isolated, but at the same time having the world feel alive and full. Plus, when the game does go and use a recognizable theme, it means so much more, and the strings kicking in after being so focused on piano for a lot of those moments just gets me.....though to be fair, I'm incredibly biased towards the string section.

Well, for what it's worth, the recent update adds the option to change the voice language.

Yes, if I change the language to something I can't understand, then I can't be annoyed by bad voice acting

I'm confused why they didn't have characters speaking Hylian or continue the Midna-gibberish line. Conlangs are actually quite easy to make these days.

I think they were just trying to take the opportunity to modernize things a bit, as long as they were going ahead with changing so many conventions in general. It's also not like this was the first time ever that the characters were voiced... The Satellaview games in Japan had voice acting, and there was also a Sound Drama for A Link to the Past, while the West had the DIC cartoons.
I actually really like the English voices in BotW. I guess it's true that it's not the best acting, but the characters have a lot of personality and energy. I like it because it's campy. And that's kind of how I expect a video game to sound? But I can understand others wanting something more believable.

Also... am I the only child giggling about ancient shafts and screws? Just wishing the ancient cores were ancient balls

You are not, lol. And I'm always thinking about the ancient shafts since I'm often hoping for them to drop, as they seem to be the ones I am always missing for crafting stuff.

I think I got most of my shafts from searching dead Guardians rather than drops from killing the live ones, give that a shot?
The gears were always the most scarce for me, but then I found you can get an average of 5-6 from killing helicopter Guardians.

I've pretty much cleaned out all of the ancient parts from inactive guardians that there are and I don't believe those ever respawn.

Do the Blood Moons not reset their drops?

The Blood Moon brings back defeated active guardians, so you can fight them again and get their materials. But materials scavenged from inactive guardians (the broken ones found lying around that don't attack you) never come back as far as I know.

So there's the guy at Outskirt Stable who will give you 100 rupees for a gourmet meat. And I have found that the best way to get gourmet meat is to kill the wolves... so... dog meat is gourmet... ... ?? I feel awkward about this.

Yeah, it took me a while to kinda accept that sometimes you have to kill wolves but hey, that Gorment Meat isn't going to sell itself.

In all fairness, it's the Post-Post Apocalypse - civilization is around again, but there are people around who still remember and lived through the immediate aftermath of Hyrule's fall. Old survival habits are still around.
