Well this is coming to a head faster than anticipated. It's like a three-way game of chicken; who will flinch first; the state authorities, the protesters, or the fed. This is going to get nasty.

Looks like it already is nasty. :/
Thanksgiving is extra hard to stomach right now in the context of this situation (and the fact that Friday is basically the nastiest, most cutthroat shopping day of the year).

So sort-of-update: So there has been an oil spill event/s from a neighboring line roughly 150 miles away. An estimated 4190bbls of loss of inventory - mostly contained and in the process of being recovered. This adding momentum to the cause of the protesting group out at Standing Rock. Also: President Elect Trump's transitioning team has been giving the situation increased attention with a few meetings already held/scheduled with Tribe Elders.

I haven't had my finger on the pulse on this situation for a little bit, has anything dramatic happened? When winter rolled in, everything sort of came to a stand still.

A sizable portion of the camp disbanded for the winter -- it's a bad winter in the plains right now. All the kids and most of the elders went home. A lot of people are still there, however, to keep the oil company at bay. It's been pretty quiet so far. The snows and bitter cold prevent work from being done.
The police departments in the area wrote a letter to Obama. "You should be ashamed that you haven't taken any action to stop these violent thugs from threatening our workers," yadda yadda. Basically stressed that they were the victims and that the White House supports "domestic terror." Or whatever.
That was the last big update, as far as I know.
I wouldn't expect anything major to happen until the snows lift. It's hard to get anything substantial done in a midwestern winter.

I played at a benefit concert for Standing Rock in Athens GA last Thursday. We raised $970 which will go to the legal fund.
