Crossed into spoilers? Cool.
Allow me to make a character gripe; the mission to gain the Death Star's design plans was inevitable as the Empire almost certainly intended to eliminate the Alliance's financial backers with it (as they did later with Alderan.) Vacillating on the issue makes little to no sense; there's literally no choice about it. You can't even reorganize back into cells like Rebels Season 1! Even if Jyn is lying for some reason, any operations on the Death Star in the future--like infiltration and sabotage--will also benefit from having the plans. What the indecision did do, however, was disorganize the Alliance's eventual assault, effectively guaranteeing the mission's high casualty rate.
I understand the point was for Jyn to give an passionate speech, but still being against it afterwards is a bit of stupidity which really ruin my immersion. It didn't really raise the tension, either, so it was a pointless mistake.
The other thing which really irritated me was Galen Erso's love letter to Jyn, which was abominably written.
Gripes done.
K2-SO is probably my favorite of the new characters. I missed HK, too, but you can't sign HK up for a suicide mission. Besides being funny, K2 also can land headshots without looking up from consoles. Seriously; why didn't you just give K2 an automatic blaster and let him annihilate the base's garrison? Because I'm pretty sure he could've soloed that.
Jyn? I still don't understand why she felt motivated by her father's message, when at the beginning she seemed to be a simple survivor and didn't have much reason to lead a mission like the data recovery. She just felt flat and forced along the story by the plot.
Cassyian...Glad he's dead. Your introduction had you shooting one of your informants in the back. And before you say he did that to keep the empire from knowing the Alliance knew about the Death Star...the reason Cassyian didn't walk with his informant was probably because he wanted to kill him in the alley. Cassyian had probably decided to kill him before even meeting him. People willing to give information to the Alliance are precious resources. I get the point is to show Cassyian's a badass and heartless spy, but his introduction was a cold-blooded murder which didn't even help the Alliance's cause.
Blind Monk: An awesome caricature. I get his buddy with the automatic blaster was following him, but why did he follow Jyn when he really wasn't that necessary for the remainder of the plot?
The Mongol with an Automatic Blaster: Why did we have to wait this long before we got a Mongol with an automatic blaster?
The other major thing was the final confirmation that the Death Star was powered by Kyber crystals. It's rumored that Star Killer Base was actually built out of Ilium, but when last I checked that wasn't confirmed. It may be that one of the points of the Death Stars or Star Killer Base isn't to destroy planets, but to pollute Kyber crystals by scarring them with destructive experiences. We know from Rebels that Kyber crystals can be healed (Ahsoka did it) but distributing so many wounded crystals is bound to alter the force users who find them.
